Double Rebyu: Made of Honor + Enchanted

Posted in Le Cinema on June 14, 2008 by Padre Salvi
Introduction

Title

Made of Honor

Genre

Romantic Comedy

Notable Actors/Actresses

Patrick Dempsey [Enchanted, Grey's Anatomy] and Michelle Monaghan [Heartbreak Kid]

Tagline

It takes a real man to become a Maid of Honor.

Rotten Tomatoes Consensus + Rating

Sharp performances by Patrick Dempsey and Michelle Monaghan can’t save this forgettable, formulaic chick flick from its comic failings. Gave it a 13%.

Non-spoiling plot + Commentary

Sabi nga nila, Patrick Dempsey is no Julia Roberts.

PSalvi’s Favorite Scene

Psalvi’s Rating

7/10

Introduction

Title

Enchanted

Genre

Romantic Comedy/Fantasy

Notable Actors/Actresses

Amy Adams, Patrick Dempsey [Grey's Anatomy] and James Marsden [27 Dresses]

Tagline

The Real World and the Animated World collide.

Rotten Tomatoes Consensus + Rating

A smart re-imagining of fairy tale tropes, Enchanted features witty dialogue, sharp animation, and a star turn by Amy Adams. Children and adults alike are sure to have smiles on their faces throughout the film. Gave it a 94%.

Non-spoiling plot + Commentary

Di ko masasabing nagustuhan ko ang storya. Pero I love the soundtrack.

PSalvi’s Favorite Scene

The Dance in the Kings and Queens Ball. Background: So Close by Jon McLaughlin. Nominated to sa Oscars!

Psalvi’s Rating

8.5/10

The Garbage Truck Law

Posted in Pastorals on June 12, 2008 by Padre Salvi

I hopped in a taxi and we took off for the airport . We were driving in the right lane when suddenly a black car jumped out of a parking space right in front of us. My taxi driver slammed on his breaks, skidded, and missed the other car by just inches!

The driver of the other car whipped his head around and started yelling at us. My taxi driver just smiled and waved at the guy. And I mean, he was really friendly.

So I asked, ‘Why did you just do that? This guy almost ruined your car and sent us to the hospital!’ This is when my taxi driver taught me what I now call, ‘The Law of the Garbage Truck.’

He explained that many people are like garbage trucks. They run around full of garbage, full of frustration, full of anger, and full of disappointment. As their garbage piles up, they need a place to dump it and sometimes they’ll dump it on you. Don’t take it personally. Just smile, wave, wish them well, and move on. Don’t take their garbage and spread it to other people at work, at home, or on the streets.

The bottom line is that successful people do not let garbage trucks take over their day. Life is too short to wake up in the morning with regrets, so…> >
‘Love the people who treat you right. Pray for the ones who don’t.’

Tama nga. Wag maging basurahan ng iba.
